Don’t blame someone else (even if it is their fault).

Don’t say things like: “That was Charlie’s fault, not mine.”

Do say things like: “As a matter of fact, I was not involved in making that decision.”

Don’t complain, because it always sounds lame.

Don’t say things like: “Why am I always getting blamed for things that aren’t my fault?”

Do say things like: “For the record, I was brought into the picture after that particular problem surfaced.”

If you were even partially to blame, accept your responsibility in a gracious and positive manner.

Don’t say things like: “We were well aware of the issue before you pointed it out.”

Do say things like: “ Thank you for pointing this out to me. I’ll look into it right away.”
